As also seen as the opening RC in Caramoan.
In pairs, contestants must race over shallow water
to a post, grab a life preserver off it, then
attempt to take the ring to their tribe post.
Whoever touches their post while also touching the
ring scores a point for their tribe. First tribe to
3 points wins flint. Results: Rd.1 - Steffi, Palesa
d. Killarney, Thoriso (M1, Y0). Rd.2 - Dante,
Chappies d. Seamus, Felix (M2, Y0). Rd.3: Tevin,
Pinty d. Tejan, Toni (M2, Y1). Rd.4: Marian, Meryl
d. Tania, Shona (M3, Y1). Masu wins!
Each tribe is told to choose two people to send off
to make a decision. Masu sends Shane and Steffi;
Yontau sends Thoriso and Seamus. Once they arrive at
The Outpost, the four are told to discuss what one
person they wish to give an idol — which must
be used at the first Tribal Council. If the
recipient is on the IC-losing tribe, it's a normal
idol. If they are on the winning tribe, they will
visit and observe Tribal Council, then play it for
someone before the votes are read. The results of
the vote are not shown until the next episode, at
the IC.
Ep.1 Outpost: - Four people, four
votes, one idol.
Day 3
(Jan. 21)
Ep.2 IC: Obstacles, ladders
Before the challenge, Nico reveals Outpost votes:
Tevin-2, Tanya-2. Tevin and Tanya draw rocks,
Tevin's is the black rock, so he receives the
Outpost Idol, which he will play at the Ep2 Tribal,
regardless of whether his tribe wins or loses.
Challenge: Tribes must break through a reed wall,
then one person (Tevin; PK) use a monkey fist to
release a set of puzzle pieces. They must maneuver
those pieces onto a wall, where two people (Tevin,
Dino; Chappies, Meryl) use them to make a staircase
down the other side. Once there, they must either
unlock a set of 5 padlocks (PK) or untie a set of 20
knots (Pinty) to release two ladders. They then use
those ladders as platforms or ladders to cross
several structures, finally lighting a wok. First
tribe to do so wins. Results: PK is slow with monkey
fist, so Yontau has an early lead. They come close
again at ladder release stage, until PK struggles
with final padlock. Yontau then has an
insurmountable lead, wins.
Shona sits out. First part is as seen in South
Pacific and SA: Champions. One at a
time, five people (Pinty, Dino, Tevin, Phil, Seamus;
Toni, Meryl, Steffi, Shane, Dante) must take a life
preserver on a rope out into the water, unclip a
fish trap containing two balls, then their tribe
turns a giant winch to pull them back in. When all
five sets of balls are retrieved, one person at a
time must shoot them up to land in an overhead rack.
First tribe to land all 10 balls wins fishing gear
and immunity. Yontau has a 1-trap lead as they
finish the water part. Balls landed: Yontau:
Tevin-3, Seamus-4, Dino-3; Masu: Shane-4, Dante-1,
PK-0 (swapping in as challenge ends). Yontau wins!
First Thoriso wants to look for the idol, and tries
to put people off the scent by telling everyone it's
already been found. When pressed on who found it,
she blurts out "Tevin." Upon hearing this, Tevin is
understandably upset, but works his way out of the
bind by organizing a tribe-wide idol search.
Eventually, Seamus finds the idol and keeps it, in
front of everyone. It's a limited-time idol, good
only through the first three Tribals of the season
(one of which has already happened, and the second
of which Yontau will now not be attending).
Feeling on the outs, with her tribe contemplating
Tribal that night, Marian scours the camp area (with
Steffi) for an idol or advantage. Eventually, she
finds a string, pulls on it, and at the end is a
pouch containing the Diplomatic Immunity advantage.
It allows her (or someone she chooses) to swap
tribes at any point before the merge. She tells
Steffi they can use it to keep their alliance intact
if there's a swap. She later tells Dante, Meryl, and
Shane about it as well.
As seen in Caramoan, except with sandbags instead
of coconuts. Dino, Tania sit out. Two people from
each tribe (Felix, Thoriso; Dante, Steffi) must each
pull a rope to hold up a net, while members of the
other tribe try to land sandbags in the net, making
it heavier. First tribe to drop both their nets
loses. Winner gets immunity plus FutureLife food
products. Order out: Felix, Dante, Thoriso. Steffi
holds on, and finally, Masu wins immunity! (and
reward).
As seen in SurvivorAU: Champions v Contenders.
In head-to-head matchups, one person from each tribe
starts at each end of a narrow track in the water.
On Nico's signal, they must run to the other end and
pull a rope to release a cloud of tribe-colored
smoke. Or they can try to stop their opponent from
doing so. First tribe to score five points wins
immunity plus reward: Comfort items and food
("Braaibroodjie" = fried sandwiches). Results: Rd1 -
Steffi d. Shona (M1, Y0). Rd2 - Meryl d. Pinty (M2,
Y0). Rd3 - Tejan d. Seamus (M3, Y0). Rd4 - Palesa d.
Killarney (M4, Y0). Rd5 - Dante d. Felix (M5, Y0).
Masu sweeps to immunity!
After the reward feast, the Masus nap ... except
Steffi, who makes a thorough search of camp. She
eventually finds an idol in roughly the same area
where Marian (and she) found the Diplomatic Immunity
advantage. It's a regular, fully-powered idol, good
until there are six people left in the game.
With Tribal approaching, Tevin makes a concerted
effort to search for the idol, and picks the tribe
flag/sign as a likely spot. He spies a tribe-colored
rope sticking out of the sand, and pulls on it,
revealing the idol. He does so right as Felix walks
up, and somehow gets the idol up and into his pocket
without Felix seeing him (maybe?).
One person (Dino; Meryl) must sit in a cart
attached to four ropes, which their tribemates must
pull to raise them to gather four wheels. They must
then lower the cart, and the rider puts the wheels
on the cart. Then the four roll the cart and rider
over obstacles to a sand pit, where the other three
tribemates (Seamus, Killarney, Shona; Palesa,
Marian, Toni) dig up ten planks to complete a
bridge. After that, the rider must remove the wheels
and use them (and other pieces) to build a vertical
lighthouse puzzle. Yontau has a slight lead getting
to the puzzle, and Dino makes short work of it.
Winner gets to spin a (LottoStar branded) prize
wheel for reward. Killarney gets a bag of lentils.
Nico announces they also get to invite two guests
from the other tribe (Toni, Tejan). Toni also gets
to spin, wins mac & cheese for their feast.
Three people (Dino, Seamus, Pinty; Shane, Meryl,
Palesa) must move stakes attached to ropes through a
maze puzzle, untangling the ropes around a pole,
eventually releasing a key. That key opens a gate,
and the entire tribe runs through a ramp gauntlet to
work a giant slide puzzle to release letters to
spell OUTWIT, OUTPLAY, OUTLAST vertically up a
tower, where one person (Dino, Toni) gives
instructions. First tribe to finish wins immunity.
Results: It's neck and neck most of the way. Masu
wins by a couple of letters.
The tribes arrive at an alleged challenge site, and
are told to drop their buffs. For the tribe swap,
each person stands by a podium with a water-filled
vase, and selects a tube from Nico. On Nico's cue,
they open their tube and dump it into the vase,
revealing the color of their new tribe. The new
tribes are Yontau (red): Dante, Dino, Marian, Meryl,
Palesa, Phil, and Shane; and Masu (blue): Felix,
Killarney, Pinty, Steffi, Tejan, and Toni. Shona's
vase is filled with yellow dye. Instead of being
exiled, she gets to choose which tribe to join. She
elects to stay with Yontau.
Later on the day of the swap, the new tribes are
instructed to again select someone to send off to
negotiate or trade for things they "forgot." Yontau
sends Dante, Masu sends Tejan. Tejan and Dante make
a minor tribe of some fishing gear (to Masu) in
exchange for the toasting stick. They also each see
a tribe-colored bag with rice at the Outpost. Upon
opening it, each discovers an identical clue to an
idol at their respective camps.
As originally seen in China, also (US) Philippines,
AU: All-Stars. Nico releases two large
wooden balls into a mud pit. Three tribe members
then race into the center and try to push one of the
balls across their finish line. First tribe to score
two points wins immunity and food (bread with
curry). Rd.1: Dante, Shane, Palesa (Yontau) vs.
Felix, Tejan, Steffi (Masu) - lasts close to an
hour, ended because Dante tossed Steffi in the mud,
hurting her knee. She's pulled by medical from the
challenge, Nico rules the bout a draw. He then
announces the next round will be sudden death:
Shona, Marian, Meryl (Yontau) vs. Pinty, Toni,
Killarney (Masu). Another draw, because Pinty
somehow tackles Shona in such a way that she also
gets pulled by medical. Episode 7 ends here, and
resumes at the top of Ep8 (minutes after Shona's
removal) with a substitution-heavy Rd.2, with Felix
replacing Killarney and Shane replacing Shona. Nico
also releases two more balls, for a total of four.
Results: After about an hour, Toni rolls a ball
across Masu's line, and Masu wins.
With Tribal potentially approaching that night
(it's eventually delayed to the next night), Dino
searches camp for an idol that he and/or Phil can
use to help reverse their unfavorable post-swap
numbers. He finds one in driftwood on the beach.
It's a regular, fully-powered idol.
One person (Dino; Thoriso) guides subsets of their
blindfolded tribemates through a maze, to collect
six bags of puzzle pieces. The guide then uses them
to solve a word puzzle. First tribe to do so wins
immunity plus a visit to the Fresh Stop Survivor
shop. Yontau has a lead heading into the puzzle, and
cements it as the non-Dino members all yell to drown
out Thoriso's instructions. Yontau wins.
Ep9 RC/IC: (Blindfolds, maze, word
puzzle) - Yontau wins.
Ep.9 advantage: Meryl (Tribal Council pass)
Yontau arrives at the food reward, and learns they
can only eat one at a time. Almost everyone realizes
there is likely an advantage to be found. They draw
straws, and Meryl goes first. After checking a few
places, she notices a cake with tribe symbols on it,
plunges her hand into the middle, and pulls out a
package. It contains a Tribal Council pass, allowing
her (or someone she chooses) to leave Tribal before
the vote, and it is good until final six.
Still having not found the idol using the clue from
the Outpost, Tejan tries again, this time digging.
He soon finds the idol, and learns it must be
transferred to Yontau at the next IC. He enlists the
help of Toni, because she regularly hugs players
from the other tribe after challenges, and has her
give it to Dino. She does this, although not
undetected.
As seen in the Ep4 IC in SurvivorAU: Champions v.
Contenders. Marian sits out. One person (Dante;
Felix) must chop through a rope to release a large
wrecking ball. Then the tribe must take it across
mutliple obstacles. Finally, they must hoist it up
again and swing it to use it as a wrecking ball, to
break four tiles, then raise the tribe flag. First
tribe to do so wins immunity and a pizza and beer
feast. Yontau has an early lead on the
tile-breaking, but Masu catches up to make it 3-3.
But Yontau wins. After the challenge, Toni hands
Dino the idol Tejan found, and several people
notice.
As seen in The Australian Outback, The Amazon,
Palau, etc., except in addition to standing on a
small perch over the water, contestants must hold a
ball over their head. If they drop the ball or fall
off the perch they're out. Last tribe standing wins
immunity. But there's a twist (or two): Both tribes
will attend Tribal, AND cast votes. Also, the last
person standing for each tribe will attend The
Outpost. Order out: All reach the 15-min mark, where
they must raise the ball above their heads.
M5-Felix, Y7-Dante, Y6-Shane, Y5-Palesa. [40 min.]
Y4-Marian, M4-Killarney. [60 min.] Y3-Meryl. [70
min.] Y2-Dino (deal with Phil to let him go to
Outpost). [130 min.] Y1 - Phil, M2/3 (tie) -
Tejan/Steffi (in a deal to let Toni attend the
Outpost), M1 - Toni. Masu is immune. After the
challenge, Marian uses her Diplomatic Immunity
advantage to swap to Masu.
Ep11 RC/IC: "Perch" plus balls - Masu
wins. Marian swaps to Masu.
Ep.11 Outpost: Toni and Phil
Toni and Phil attend. They are instructed to talk
amongst themselves and predict who will be voted out
at the next (joint) Tribal Council. If they guess
correctly, they will each receive a half of an
immunity idol. They pick Shane. (He is not voted
out, so no idols for them.)
The episode ends in a cliffhanger, as Toni and Phil
vote for Shane, in preparation for Tribal Council.
Just as they do, Shane is shown pulling on a red
string near Yontau camp, and pulling up a package.
As Ep12 opens, we learns it's Yontau's Diplomatic
Immunity advantage, but it's now expired, because
Marian already used hers, which voids the other one.
After Palesa leaves Tribal Council, Nico gives his
words of wisdom, then ... pulls out a hidden tray in
his podium, full of yellow buffs. It's the merge!
Everyone celebrates (except Palesa, obviously). The
new tribe is named Salan.
Similar to merge RC/feast concept in SurvivorAU:
Brains v Brawn. Contestants must smash two
plates using slingshots and marbles. The sooner they
do so, the faster they can pick an item to eat,
ranging from ribs, chips and beer to a boiled egg.
First come, first served, but some items are
covered. Order to eat: 1. Felix (ribs, chips), 2.
Steffi (covered - bowl of rice), 3. Shane (who stays
in to help Marian), 4. Phil (covered - rice and
spices - plus a key to a cooler of beer back at
camp), (3). Shane (burger, chips), 5. Marian (full
SA breakfast), 6. Dino (covered - Save the Date
advantage), 7. Tejan (spaghetti, wine), 8. Dante
(beer, biltong), 9. Killarney (helped by Phil as
multiple people jump in to help - donuts), 10. Meryl
(OUTsurance reward send token), 11. Toni (egg). Not
really an individual challenge, since placement
didn't really mean better reward, and everyone "won"
something.
Sort of like Nicaragua's "Splash Back,"
but facing forward. Contestants must stand on a
tilted platform, holding on to a knotted rope above
their head. If they let go or fall off (into water),
they're out. At regular intervals, they must move
their hands out to a rope that's further out,
increasing the lean. Order out: First rope - 11.
Felix. Second rope - 10. Dino, 9. Killarney, 8.
Dante, 7. Meryl, 6. Marian, 5. Toni, 4. Shane, 3.
Tejan, 2. Steffi, 1. Phil wins! (He also pees,
mid-challenge.)
Shortly after the IC, Tejan goes hunting for an
idol, ideally in a tree, and in short order spies a
yellow string, which is of course attached to a
pouch with a fully-powered idol inside. He plays it
that night, for himself.
TC10 - Toni voted out (6-[0]-1-1; 1st
juror), 10 left.
Day 22
(Feb. 9)
Ep.14 RC/IC: Dunes, keys, puzzle
Contestants must race up a dune to retrieve one of
three keys, run back down, use the key to unlock one
of three boxes containing puzzle pieces. When all
three boxes are open, they must then complete the
puzzle. Winner gets immunity plus reward: Chinese
takeout (chicken noodle stir fry). Dante, Tejan
first to start on the puzzle, but all get there
eventually. From out of nowhere ... Meryl wins! She
picks, Phil, Dino, and Steffi (who didn't eat at
previous ep's reward) to join her. As it turns out,
the reward has a dilemma: Eat, or bring back
blankets for the tribe (they choose the latter).
Also, the blankets include fortune cookies for the
tribe, with one containing a ticket to the Outpost.
It's won by ... also Meryl.
Meryl arrives at the Outpost, and is presented with
another dilemma: Take a 50/50 coin (50% chance of
working as an idol) and lose her vote, or risk
nothing and return to camp? She chooses the coin, of
course.
Two-part elimination challenge. First round: "We
Will Go Round," as seen in Island of the Idols.
Contestants must stand on a narrow plank and spin a
ball around inside a wheel. If they fall off or the
ball falls out, they're out. Last six standing move
on, last one gets advantage in the second round.
Second round: Table maze, first three advance as
soon as they finish to: "Houses of the Holey," as in
Worlds Apart. Winner must place three
balls. Winner gets immunity plus ... a brand-new
Mahindra XUV 300, which they get to drive to a tapas
and wine lunch. Order out: Rd.1 - 9. Felix, 8.
Marian, 7. Steffi (all on first section, all
eliminated), 6. Shane, 5. Killarney (on transition
to second section), 4. Meryl, 3. Tejan, (third
section) 2. Phil, 1. Dino. Second phase (Dino has
one hole plugged on the table maze), order finished:
1. Tejan, 2. Dino, 3. Meryl. (Killarney, Phil, Shane
eliminated). Balls placed on final stage: Tejan-1,
Dino-1, Tejan-2, Dino-2, DIno-3 ... Dino wins! He
takes Phil, Steffi, Meryl (no feast at merge).
Remaining five draw rocks for an Outpost visit,
Marian wins.
Ep15 IC: (Go Round/Holey) - Dino wins,
gets a car curse.
Day 25
(Feb. 12)
Ep.15 Outpost: Marian
Marian arrives at the Outpost, and like Meryl, is
faced with a dilemma: She can take a clue to an
immunity idol (for herself), or a bag of rice for
her tribe. She eventually chooses the rice.
Contestants must move a peg through a
diamond-shaped vertical maze, hanging on the other
side of a locked gate. The peg is attached to a key
that, when the maze is completed, unlocks the gate.
Then they must complete the four-color
block-stacking puzzle first seen in Samoa, where the
blocks must be stacked such that no face of the
stack has the same color twice. Results: Dino,
Felix, Phil first through to the puzzle, then Meryl,
Shane, Marian, Tejan. Killarney does not appear to
reach the puzzle, but Marian wins, seconds ahead of
Tejan.
Contestants must take a block, high-step through a
trip-hazard grid, then place the block(s) on a shelf
to spell out "RETURN OF THE OUTCASTS." If they knock
blocks off, they have to start over. Winner gets a
chicken feast and a video call from home, AND an
advantage in the IC. Results: Phil wins, a few
blocks ahead of Tejan and Felix. Nico then offers
Phil a dilemma: Get the food and call and advantage
by himself, or take two people but forfeit food and
advantage. Phil chooses to go solo. Tejan then uses
his reward send advantage to go too. He gets all the
reward, plus the advantage.
Ep17 RC: (Trip hazard, blocks) - Phil
wins, Tejan joins via advantage.
Day 29
(Feb. 16)
Ep.18 IC: Keep On Your Toes
As first seen in Worlds Apart.
Contestants must stand on tiptoes on a beam, using
their head to wedge a block of wood against the
frame above them. If they or the block falls,
they're out. Phil and Tejan's advantage: They can
start five minutes after everyone else. Order out:
7. Marian (under 5 min). [Phil, Tejan join.] 6.
Tejan, 5. Shane (~ 9 min). [At 10 min, no longer
allowed to touch frame with hands.] 4. Killarney
(17.5 min), 3. Dino (20 min), [Ep17 ends, Ep18
starts here] 2. Felix, 1. Phil wins again!
Phil finds an idol clue on the beach (a second
ahead of Felix), which he eventually tracks to a
second clue in the stairs. This tells him there's an
idol at Tribal, but with time running out to use it,
he needs to get it ASAP. He does so, it's under the
urn.
In pairs (Blue-Shane/Killarney; purple-Felix/Phil;
orange-Dino/Marian), contestants must use a monkey's
fist to pull a loop and release 20 sandbags. They
must then use a catapult to launch the sandbags onto
a net, crawl under the net and move the sandbags
along, and put them in a trough. Finally, they must
bounce the sandbags off a mini-trampoline into a set
of seven baskets. First pair to get at least one
sandbag in each basket wins reward: A spa day with
shower, massage, lunch and cocktails. Results:
Purple has three baskets hit before blue even starts
the final segment, and six filled before orange
starts. Purple (Phil/Felix) wins easily.
Ep19 RC: (Bouncing sandbags) - Phil,
Felix win spa trip.
Day 32
(Feb. 19)
Ep.19 Outpost: Dino
Dino finally gets to cash in his Save the Date
advantage on Day 32, taking a trip to the Outpost.
He's rewarded with an expensive cruise for two
(after the game), plus an extra vote, good through
final five.
Contestants must toss a ball up and into an
overhead chute, run through a trip hazard, and catch
the ball at the other end before it hits the ground,
for two balls total. Then they must move themselves
and the balls under a log, then use the balls to
complete a four-sided pyramid puzzle. (The same one
Evvie had memorized in S41). Dino and Felix are
first to move on from the ball chute, then Phil,
Shane (Marian and Killarney never catch a ball).
Phil wins, with Dino seconds behind.
Salan receives treemail telling them to solve a
word find and decode a puzzle that tells them the
location of an advantage in the next immunity
challenge. Phil takes off first, followed by Dino,
but it's Shane who finds the advantage, under a rock
on the beach. It tells him the number of branches on
a tree in the IC, which is one of six numbers he'll
need to count. He shares this with Dino and Marian.
(Possibly also Killarney, definitely not Phil.)
As seen in Cagayan. Contestants must race out,
count one of six objects, then race back to their
station and enter the numbers (in the order dictated
on a flap on their stand) into a combination lock,
to release a bar, and break their tile. If they pull
on the bar and it's wrong, they have to go back and
re-count. First to smash their tile wins immunity
plus hot dogs and beer. Shane has an advantage that
tells him (and Dino and Marian, who he told) one of
the totals: 31 branches on the euphorbia plant. Phil
wins, despite the collusion against him.
As seen in Ghost Island. In pairs (Phil-Dino;
Marian-Shane), players must place a spool on a
three-story track, while their partner retrieves it
at the bottom and puts it back on. As time passes,
more spools are added, making it more difficult.
First pair to drop a spool loses. Winners receive: A
helicopter trip to an overnight stay at a game
reserve. They draw rocks to determine who makes
first pick (it's Phil). Eventually (Ep22), Phil
slips, and Marian and Shane win reward.
Ep22 RC: "Always on the Run" - Marian,
Shane win game reserve trip.
Day 37
(Feb. 24)
Ep.22 IC: Giant Tick
As most recently seen in Survivor 42.
Contestants must go across six obstacles (rope
bridge, etc.) to retrieve six total puzzle bags,
then return to their station after each one. When
all six are gathered, they must complete the puzzle.
Order to puzzle: Phil, Marian, Dino, Shane. Still no
obvious leader at 1 hr. At some point after 1.5
hours, Shane wins!
As seen in Fiji. Held in front of loved ones
(Shane's friend Jeremy, Marian's mom Charmaine,
Dino's fiancee Kirsten). Contestants must lay on a
ramp, holding on to a handle over their heads, as
water drips down from a barrel above. At regular
intervals, Nico increases the angle of the ramp by 5
degrees, making it harder to hold on. Last person
still holding on wins. Results: 3. Marian out (50
deg., 28 min.), 2. Shane (? min), 1. Dino wins!
SurvivorSA
twitter (11/25/21): Season name and theme officially
announced. (We're completely guessing on the dates and number
of contestants at this point.)
