Episode 9 scoring notes
This was a straightforward episode,
scoring-wise. But it features both the good and the bad in Borneo-era
challenge design and presentation. While underwhelming in terms
of excitement value, the flipping squares IC at least clearly
delineated who was still in, and who was out. And, of course, it
was something Rudy actually had a shot at winning. The RC,
however, looked visually interesting, but there was no way to
keep track of where anyone was. People scrambled around on
ropes, and then all of a sudden, someone was about to win. No,
two people! No, actually one. Part of the problem was in the
presentation: in later seasons, each player's total would have
been presented in an on-screen tally. Also, as an antecedent of
epic challenges like Tocantins' "Tarantula," later
versions would better establish the structure of the course, to
give weight to the race to the end. But a promising beginning.
Vote count:
- Jenna received 4 votes, from Hatch, Rudy, Sue, and (accidentally?) Sean (voted out, 4-3-1).
- Hatch received 3 votes, from the underpowered alliance of Jenna, Gervase, and Colleen.
- Sean received 1 throwaway vote from Kelly.
