TitanTV: "Return:
In the fourth-season opener, an attack on an L.A. commuter train
is followed by a possible threat to the Internet, bringing forth
a suspect who arouses suspicion of more in Jack Bauer, now working
for the Secretary of Defense (William Devane)." |
Fox.com: "Season
four begins 18 months after the third season. CTU is now headed
by Erin Driscoll, a steely government agent who made firing Jack
one of her first priorities upon taking over. After the explosion
of a commuter train, Jack, who is now working for Secretary of
Defense James Heller, and also is romantically involved with his
married daughter, Audrey, suddenly finds himself heading back to
CTU for a meeting with Driscoll on Heller's behalf." |

Episodes
4.1 - 4.2 (Semi-chronological, largely from the 24
Insider ) |
- "The
first episode starts at 7am. It opens with a train being
blown apart near Los Angeles. A hooded biker kills one passenger
who's still alive after the blast and removes a briefcase that's
attached to his arm. Jack is introduced
next staring into a mirror as if "he doesn't know the
man he's looking at." We find out that Jack was fired
by CTU by the new director, a woman named Driscoll,
over his drug problem. Jack leaves and we learn that he is
*NOT* in D.C. as some rumors have suggested, he's still in
L.A. CTU is introduced and according to the action lines
its gotten a major face lift, so much so that Jack barely
recognizes it. Chloe still works there and
runs up to Jack. Jack's love interest, Audrey Raines,
is introduced. We learn that she has separated from her husband
in D.C. and that no one knows about Jack's relationship with
her, especially her father, who is the Secretary
of Defense. Jack
notices that the new CTU director is screwing up and interrupts
her during a LIVE interrogation and of course uncovers some
information. Jack knows the train bombing isn't the terrorist
act that was being planned but the CTU director ignores his
warnings. Chloe helps him figure out that something major
is being planned for 8am. Audrey's brother is
rebellious and is planning a protest at a Lockheed plant
where the director is set to speak later that day. A middle
eastern family is introduced. Jack uncovers that the terrorists
are targeting the secretary of defense (who just happens
to be Audrey's dad)."
- "Just as Jack figures out that Audrey's dad is the target
and tries to warn her, his call is interrupted by a missile blowing
up a service vehicle near where she's standing. She and her father
are kidnapped by "Middle Eastern" terrorists while Jack
gets to listen on Audrey's cell phone. The terrorists are planning
a live execution on the Internet of Audrey's father for his crimes
against humanity. Audrey attempts to seduce a guard in a BLATANT
rehash of season 1 (but fails). Andrew (Chloe's
friend) stumbles across something in Arabic and calls Chloe. At first
Chloe brushes it off, but then Andrew sees some of his co-workers
being tortured by terrorists for information and leaves the building
and calls Chloe. Andrew gets on the phone with Jack, after the CTU
director, Driscoll, realizes what's going on. In any case, Andrew
is freaking out and Jack arranges a meeting with him. Driscoll lets
Jack go with the head of field ops to pick Andrew up, but before
they get there Andrew bumps into one of the terrorists at the meeting
place. Andrew says "are you Jack Bauer?" and the terrorist
says yes. Jack then arrives and doesn't find Andrew and calls him,
which makes Andrew realize he's with a terrorist."

- "The
Briefcase: Inside of the ruins of the "D
CAR" there is a man with no character name with a
briefcase. Dar finds the man and looks
at his hand. We see that the man has the briefcase handcuffed
to his wrist. Dar solves that problem quickly and then
executes the man. He gets on his motorcycle and speeds
off. Dar makes sure nobody follows him and gradually makes
his way to his financiers' location. Who could this villain
be that so desperately wants this briefcase? Dar parks
at a nice cozy home in the suburbs of Los Angeles. As he
walks towards the house there is a cut-scene to an unrelated
scene but a few minutes later we get to find out who financed
the train operation. Inside of the house Dina Araz pours
Dar some tea. As she does this we see Navi opening
the briefcase and examining it's contents. Which of course
we don't get to see. Navi asks Dar, "Are you sure
you left the train before anyone saw you ?" Dar tells
Navi, "Yes of course, I took evasive measures to make
sure no one followed me here." Navi looks at Dar in
a menacing way as his cel phone rings. We bust out the 24 boxes
and split screen to Kalil. He is leaving
the Paige home. Kalil tells Navi " I
found the person who stumbled onto our server." Navi
asks " Is he with you now ?" Kalil responds, "No,
I'll have him shortly." Navi isn't pleased and says, " Find
out who he's talked to... and then kill him." A few
scenes later we are back in the Araz home. Dina is finishing
cleaning up the dishes from breakfast. This is where the
briefcase plot starts to really play out. The briefcase
is very important to the Araz family. It needs to be transported
to a mysterious building somewhere in Los Angeles and Navi
entrusts this task to 17 year old Behrooz.
Our teenage transporter enters the kitchen and we see him
carrying the briefcase. He tells Dina, "I'm leaving
now." Dina looks at her son not really sure if he
is ready for his part in the operation. She says, "This
is a very simple task Behrooz... but these are the ones
where mistakes can be made." Behrooz grabs the car-keys.
Dina says "Drive carefully. If there's anyone outside
the building who looks at all suspicious, drive away and
call us. Do you understand ?" Behrooz says "Yes," and
starts to walk out the door. But his journey to the building
is interrupted as he opens the door."

- "Andrew
Paige will be at work at the graphic design firm.
Andrew is on his computer doing work right? Of course not,
Andrew is hacking into places he shouldn't be in. Andrew
stumbles onto a "secure server" that Navi
Araz and his associates have been using. He comes
across "startling" information that involves
a terrorist attack. So what does Andrew do ? Does he call
the F.B.I. ? Of course not, he calls fellow computer geek
and close friend Chloe O'Brian. After
giving the intel to Chloe, Andrew decides to take a break
and leave the office for awhile, that will prove to be
a very wise decision because Navi's men are on the way."

- "Ronnie
Lobell and background CTU Field Ops Agents Reilly and Rosenthal leave
CTU in a dark blue Ford Expedition. Ronnie is wearing all
black just like Jack will be in a few episodes. Ronnie
is also wearing black sunglasses as he gets in the Expedition.
Meanwhile at the Dry Cleaners, Tomas Sherek arrives
with a few duffel bags. Sherek meets with Maurice
Landstrass, the owner of the Dry Cleaners. After
a few other scenes with Jack and the Araz gang Ronnie and
his Field Ops unit arrive at the Cleaners. Ronnie sets
up a perimeter around the building, he tells Reilly go
to around the back and tells Rosenthal to cover the door.
As Ronnie walks towards the front door we see that the
blinds are closed and it looks a little suspicious. In
his Field Ops mic/headset he tells Director Driscoll that "All
teams are in place." Right before he enters he says "Everyone
stand down unless I give the order." Ronnie enters
the Cleaners and we see Maurice Landstrass is nowhere to
be seen. Ronnie goes to the counter and plants his cel
phone. We zoom in on the phone and on both sides mini apertures
open. Back at CTU we see Erin and Jack.
Ronnie activates the cel phone cameras which gives CTU
a real time video feed from two different angles. Jack
and Erin watch together.
- Ronnie looks around and then rings the bell. We hear a few noises
in the back-room and a few seconds later Maurice appears and says, "May
I help you?" Ronnie says, "I'd like to speak with you Mr.
Landstrass." Maurice says, "Do I know you?" Ronnie
says, "My name is Ronnie Lobell and I'm with Los Angeles CTU,
I'd like to ask you a few questions." Back at CTU Jack doesn't
like Ronnie's field techniques. Jack says "Does Ronnie have
a hard perimeter outside the building?" Bitchy Erin Driscoll
doesn't respond to Jack and just keeps watching the video feed. Ronnie
says, "Do you know a man named Tomas Sherek?" Maurice says, "No.
I don't know this name." Ronnie quickly says, "Really?
Because we have records of you contacting him in the last two days." Maurice
says, "It wasn't me. I run a legitimate business." Ronnie
says, "I never claimed your business wasn't legitimate." As
we watch this lame line of questioning we go back to Jack at CTU.
Jack is growing impatient of the fruitless interrogation. Jack says, "This
guy's hiding someone in there." Erin says, "It's being
handled, Jack." Jack doesn't like being treated like a little
bitch and he says, "Erin, please listen to me. That store is
open for business, but the curtains are drawn. I don't see any other
employees. And he's a lot more nervous than he should be.... Erin,
he's hiding something." Erin analyzes the situation for a few
seconds and then picks up her two-way. Erin says "Ronnie, turn
your back on Landstrass for a moment, please." Ronnie reacts
and follows the order. He slowly turns his back and looks at the
sign on the front door. Still with his back turned Ronnie says "It
says here that you open up at six a.m. Have you been here the entire
time?" Maurice says, "Yes. What's this about?" With
Ronnie's back turned Maurice darts his eyes towards the back. Jack
and Erin are glued to the screen watching Maurice's every move. Jack
notices Maurice's eyes flicker to the left. Jack suddenly pushes
past Erin and takes control of her keyboard. Jack pushes a few keys
and the video freezes and zooms in on Maurice's face. Jack plays
the video and we see a close-up of Maurice's eyes quickly looking
to his right. Jack says "There to his right. You see it?" Driscoll
sees it and picks up her two way and says "Ronnie, look to Landstrass'
right. Is there anywhere Sherek can be hiding?" Ronnie looks
around toward the area where Landstrass looked and we see a counter
stacked with clothes. Ronnie says "Can I take a look a look
behind the counter?" Ronnie doesn't wait for an answer and he
makes a move towards the back. Maurice tries to block him and he
says "No. This is my store. I want you to leave NOW !"
- Ronnie pushes him aside and says "get outta my way." Maurice
says "You can't come in here and poke around like this." Suddenly
Tomas Sherek launches the counter at Ronnie, buying time for him
to make his escape out of the back door. Ronnie throws the counter
aside and in his mic he says "Exterior team back door." Suddenly
the back door swings open and CTU Agent Reilly appears with his gun
pointed at Sherek. Tomas is cornered and he runs toward Ronnie. Sherek
tries to bust out a Brian Urlacher but Ronnie tackles him and they
crash into a rack of dry cleaning. Ronnie picks Sherek up and slams
him up against the wall. Ronnie searches him and takes his gun. The
other CTU teams stream into the cleaners and secure Landstrass. In
his headset Ronnie says "It's Sherek. We've got him.""

- "Melanie is
an employee at the graphic design firm and is a close friend
of Andrew's. She and the other employees
at the design firm are busy doing their normal daily routine.
That all comes to a screeching halt when Navi's men arrive.
We get to hear lines like "what did you see" and "who
hacked into our system". Navi's men torture Melanie
and ask her to give them a name. At about this time Andrew
decides it's about time to get back to work. He goes inside
and is startled when he hears the screaming. He knows something
is wrong so he peaks inside the office area and sees Melanie
being tortured. Melanie tells Navi's men that the guy they
are looking for is named Andrew Paige. Once they get a name
Melanie and the others are executed. Andrew sees all of this.
He freaks out and takes off. Navi's operatives leave the
building and they continue the search for Andrew."

- "Jack
busts into Sherek's holding cell, pops him in the knee (a
scene that had the whole audience in applause), and gets
the info out of him regarding Heller's abduction. Jack calls
Audrey, tells her that her father is the primary objective.
Before she can warn James, a rocket is fired off and blows
up a van nearby... secret service is killed one by one by
the terrorists, who grab the terrified Audrey and the noticably
agitated James Heller. His son, Richard, watches from the
window, terrified out of his mind... Jack has been listening
to all of this, as Audrey's cell phone is on the ground,
still connected to him. Cue final split screen, which ends
with Audrey and Heller getting gagged and blindfolded in
the terrorists' van."

- "In
this scene we are in the city of Van Nuys, Jeannie
Paige is at home doing her normal morning chores.
As she is folding the laundry her phone rings. She answers
it and we cut to Andrew Paige. Andrew is on the street a
few blocks from the massacre at the graphic design firm.
Jeannie is surprised to hear from Andrew because he is usually
busy at work early in the morning. Andrew tells Jeannie to
get the hell out of the house. He says " I saw something
on the internet and now someone's after me." Jeannie
tells Andrew that he's just being paranoid and to calm down.
But then Andrew says "They killed Melanie and everybody
else in the office." Jeannie immediately stops doing
the laundry and focuses all of her attention onto the bombshell
that Andrew just dropped. Jeannie says that she is going
to call the police but Andrew tells her "No. You can't.
We can't trust anybody. For all I know the Government could
be behind this." Andrew tells his mom to go to a friend's
house and lay low. Jeannie tries to ask another question
but Andrew says "GO NOW !" Jeannie hangs up and
we see the scared look on her face. But that's not all we
see. The camera adjusts to find Kalil standing
outside of her window watching her every move."

- "At
CTU Jack will press Chloe for
information about Andrew Paige. Chloe gives
in and tells Jack that Andrew can be contacted on his cel
phone. (Chloe still thinks Andrew is at the graphic design
firm.) Chloe calls Andrew who is now far far away from the
bloodbath at his workplace. He is now at a seemingly secure
train station. On a speaker-phone with Jack listening Chloe
makes the call. Andrew is seriously pissed off at Chloe.
He knows she betrayed him. That's right Chloe told Director
Driscoll about Andrew's discovery and then Driscoll relayed
the information to the Los Angeles F.B.I. field office. Anyways,
Andrew tells Chloe that everyone is dead and he thinks that
they are trying to hunt him down. Andrew begins to cry, he
tells Chloe about the middle eastern men who came to his
office and butchered his colleagues. Jack chimes in at this
point and Andrew is surprised to hear another voice on the
line. Jack tells Andrew that he works for Secretary of Defense
Heller. Jack tells Andrew that he is in danger and that he
will come pick him up. Chloe tells Andrew to trust Jack."
- "24 busts out it's on screen boxes and we cut to
another scene. We see a laptop and voice waves moving on the screen.
We pull back to reveal Navi's operative Kalil Hasan monitoring
the call. Andrew tells Jack to meet him at the train station on Central.
They hang up and Chloe tells Jack that this is all her fault and
that she never should have told Erin Driscoll. Jack assures Chloe
that he will bring in Andrew and that he will be safe. Back at Jeannie
Paige's house Kalil packs up his laptop and exits the house.
Outside children on bikes pass Kalil as he dials a number on his
cel. With his briefcase in hand Navi is given a status report. Kalil
gets into his car and speeds off."

- "Outside
of Richard Heller's home we see dozens of
reporters. The police are on the scene and are questioning
Richard. Richard is moved from the inside of the house to
an awaiting LAPD squad car. The scene turns into a news report
and we hear a local reporter say the following:"As you
can see behind me, Secretary Heller's son, Richard is being
escorted from the scene. This is being done for his own protection,
according to a LAPD spokesman, who also confirmed that at
least five Secret Service Agents were shot and killed during
the kidnapping." The scene after this is at a train
station, in the lobby of the train station to be exact."

- "At
about 8:30 a.m. Jack and Driscoll will
have their final showdown over his role at CTU. Driscoll
tells Jack that she will reinstate his agency status but
only on a temporary basis until Secretary Heller is safe.
Jack agrees but Driscoll continues to dig. She tells him
that he will be unable to make unilateral decisions and that
he will be working directly under the man who took his job,
Ronnie Lobell. Jack looks around CTU and sees Ronnie, he
shakes his head and agrees with Driscoll's restrictions.
In the end Jack will have no intention of following Driscoll's
rules."
Source - The
24 Insider |
- "Both
Jack and Kalil rush to find Andrew Paige at the train station.
Kalil has the luxury of not having a bitch of a boss named
Erin Driscoll though. Driscoll and Jack argue over the "existing
protocol" and Jack's role in the field operation. Jack
knows that he has Keeler and other top-tier elements on his
side because the overall objective is to retrieve Secretary
Heller. Driscoll compromises and agrees to send along Ronnie
Lobell . At the train station Kalil arrives and does his
best Jack Bauer impression (this scene takes place on track
3). Andrew doesn't seem to know that Jack isn't a short middle
eastern terrorist with cheesy Arab-American pimp clothes.
Gullible Andrew and Kalil talk for a few more seconds but
then it looks like Kalil dispenses with the pleasantries
because Kalil now has a gun in his hand. He puts a jacket
over the gun, hiding it. Kalil and Andrew then make there
way to Kalil's car. Jack and Ronnie arrive and Kalil gives
Andrew some nice duct tape to put over his mouth. Andrew
is thrown into the back of Kalil's car and Jack and CTU square
off over which way the investigation should go."

- "Ronnie is killed right near the end of Hour
2 (which I suppose is technically the end of the season premiere).
Jack has been granted provisional status by Driscoll under the conditions
that he operates directly under Lobell. Lobell is a total dickwad,
to say the least. He is the anti-Jack... totally restrained and not
a bad ass at all. Jack and Ronnie are going to the train station
to pick up Andrew, but Kalil (I believe that is his name) gets to
him first. Jack and Ronnie spot his car, and Ronnie orders: "You
get the gate, I'll grab the kid"... Jack says that he's making
the wrong play and that they should follow Kalil, cause he will lead
them to Heller. Ronnie says it isn't his call, and then roughly places
his hands on Jack... good ol' Bauer doesn't take kindly to this,
so he grabs Ronnie and the two have a brief altercation -- resulting
in Jack being on the ground with a gun pointed at him. Obviously,
he's been out of the game for a long time! After this, Ronnie handcuffs
Jack to a metal bar and goes to call for back-up, when Kalil spots
him out of the corner of his eye. He kills a nearby guard, then shoots
Ronnie in the chest. As Ronnie is dying, Jack begs of him to get
the keys to the handcuff. Ronnie's dying action is to reach out as
far as he can, and Jack gets the keys. No more Ronnie Lobell."
