From MSN.com's Meet the Cast gallery (by Minh Nguyen):
"Carter says: 'I don't think I'll go in flexing muscles or trying to scare people or try to say, "Hey, you need me because I'm athletic." I don't want to do that and not underestimate anyone, not stereotype anyone and not have any pre-assumptions about myself or about them.'
Jeff Probst says: 'Carter, I'm on the fence about. In casting he was great, funny and really open. Seeing him when the show started, he was getting really quiet. I was concerned that maybe he's getting nervous or clamming up a little bit.'"
Excerpts from his CBS.com Survivor: Philippines bio page:
"Personal Claim to Fame: Graduating college while running all four years.
Inspiration in Life: My dad. I see what he has done for me! The guy has a heart of a champ!
Hobbies: Surfing, running and eating meals with friends.
Pet Peeves: Laziness!
3 Words to Describe You: Ambitious, inspiring (I’m a dreamer) and lighthearted.
If You Could Have 3 Things on The Island What Would They Be and Why?
1) Journal - to document my thoughts.
2) A rope swing - because a rope swing on your own private island....doesn’t get much cooler than that..
3) My mom - she would dominate!
Survivor Contestant You Are Most Like: I want to play in challenges with a lot of heart like Ozzy did, but I think I have a personality that is more similar to Erik Reichenbach or Fabio.
Reason for Being on Survivor: Glory! All the people in my generation who say, 'oh… I could win that show…' I say, 'put up or shut up.' Including me.
Why You Think You’ll 'Survive' Survivor: I bring people together and make them laugh. That’s important. I’m a leader, and I’m probably one of the best tree climbers.
Why You Think You Will Be the Sole Survivor: People enjoy me. I’m competitive but down to earth. I won’t slack off and I’m physically built like a lot of past winners."
From his EW.com pre-game interview, by Dalton Ross:
"'I will win Survivor because I will not underestimate anyone,' says Carter. And while the 23-year-old may be underestimated himself due to his Jeff Spicoli vibe, the running coach's conditioning and social game makes him a viable threat to win. It's no surprise that he counts Ozzy as his Survivor idol. 'I told myself I want to get on that show and do what he did. And I know those are big shoes to fill, but I want to get out there and try my hardest.'"
Summary of evidence for Carter Williams being on Survivor: Philippines.
- (8/8/12) SurvivorFever.net, citing longtime spoiling pariah Jim Early/missyae, adds Carter to their roster of contestants. (Sucks discussion here).
- (8/8/12) Sucks poster poisonkiss87 notes that Carter indeed had a twitter gap during filming (lots of tweets before and after, but none between March 8th and May 1st, 2012).
Who is Carter Williams?
- Biographically, he went to high school at Maranatha Academy in Shawnee, KS. Then attended Biola University in Orange County, where he ran track and cross country. Appears to have graduated from Biola in 2010 or 2011.
- From his twitter, he seems to really enjoy CrossFit, running, and saying "brah." There's no real indication anywhere that he's familiar with Survivor, since he doesn't "like" any TV shows on facebook, although he has liked the BUFF company in the past, and he follows Ozzy Lusth on twitter. He seems like a cross between Fabio (surfery), Matt Elrod (Christian), and Erik Reichenbach (running).
- He is, however, an accomplished (read: fast) runner. He apparently ran the Silver Strand Half-Marathon (San Diego) in both 2009 (age 21) and 2010 (age 22), both times finishing in 1:15:44 or under (he was fourth overall in 2010). He also did the "Prairie Punisher" run-bike-run duathlon in Shawnee, KS in 2010, finishing in 1:40:18, and second overall.
