- Reward/Immunity challenge: "The Gauntlet" - Just as in Palau, all bark, no bite. The swinging bags fail to have any real impact, except the one time Eliza loses her balance. So it's Jason vs. Erik, mostly, and Jason gets a half-course lead when Erik's parkour attempt at clearing the rope bridge fails, and there's no real way for Jason to blow it. Airai wins immunity, plus pizza and beer delivered to camp.
- Exile: But wait ... BEFORE the challenge, each tribe had to send someone from the other tribe to Exile. Ozzy and Alexis are the two picked. Each of them gets an Ep8-only individual immunity, then is whisked away before the challenge. Unlike last episode, where it was completely unshown, we get to visit this time because Ozzy is inspecting whether his fake idol has been taken. It has.
- Voted out: Ami, 4-1, over Erik, a particularly somber end to the pre-merge, as Ami seems legitimately heartbroken to be cast aside in favor of Erik.
Episode 8 scoring notes
- The sit-outs, or not: Ozzy and Alexis weren't even present when the challenge was run, and did not sit out by choice (well, it was the other tribe's choice). So they don't even get charged with a ChA, let alone a sit-out. Parvati, however, is a regular sit-out.
- Dominance: The scores show it, but despite neither having much chance to win, James and Eliza (literally, in James's case) carried post-swap Airai to the merge. And then, the day before the merge, James tells Parvati that she needs to pull in Alexis and Natalie. (We presumably only see the Natalie half because Alexis is away at Exile.) So James is responsible for Parvati being here, and for her endgame, and he's lumped in with the "dead to me" people she lists in a catty, mostly joking confessional. Cool. For all its fan favorite status, this season is really Thailand 2.0, just with lots of Cirie to brighten everything up.
Vote count:
- Ami received 5 votes, from Amanda, Cirie, Erik, and Ozzy (voted out, 4-1).
- Erik received 1 vote, from Ami.
