We are really flying toward the end of the season now! After Drea’s very lengthy and dramatic exit from the game, we enter next week with only six castaways remaining in the game. Drea really did play her heart out this season and we the viewers were rewarded with some great television moments. Also, a quick word about Romeo, they really made him look as if he never left that spot next to the pot of rice didn’t they? That gave me a chuckle. But it’s crazy that he is never part of the plan and never has any idea what is going on during the vote. But, enough about that, let’s get onto this week’s “Top Five Baby!”
1. The
Maryanne edit
I rarely look at the edit a player gets to try and determine what that means for their overall game. We have seen too many players get edited a certain way for most of a season just for it to turn out a completely different way. Personally, I am great with that, because it makes it harder to figure out the winner based on what you are seeing five or six episodes in.
However, at this point in the game when there are only seven people left, I struggle to try to figure out why they would show a segment about Maryanne’s toenail falling off. It is such a minor scene in the overall big picture of what’s going on, yet we were treated to that delightful moment on our screens. I know it shows them all sitting around laughing and having a great time and it leads to a Maryanne confessional, but I just have to wonder why that was chosen to be shown to us.
Is there no other Maryanne content that was worth showing during the last period of time, so they just picked one? Is it possible they are trying to show some more silly and light-hearted moments of Maryanne as something they can showcase later? As I said, I’m not normally an edit watcher, but this time I have to wonder what’s up.
2. Final
four?
So, there is a scene where Mike, Drea, Lindsay, Jonathan, and Omar are sitting on the beach and make a supposed final five pact. That obviously didn’t last long, with Mike immediately targeting Drea and saying it was all an act just to get her out of the game. Later, we do see that happen, when Drea goes home. But it got me wondering about something.
This appears to be a really unique cast where they all genuinely seem to get along with one another. Could this be a season where the goats like Romeo are cut loose next so the big guns remaining in the game can duke it out amongst themselves? Could we see the Taku four stay together until the last four?
Normally, I wouldn’t suggest something like that could possibly happen, but season 42 hasn’t been a normal season. I am really curious to see if that is a possibility, or will something happen like this…
3. Jonathan
is hangry
We’ve all been there, right? You are hungry and you say the wrong thing or act differently until you get a nice meal. Well, not exactly. Most of us are not built like Jonathan and most of us haven’t been as hungry as these poor souls are. With what very little rice they are getting and only a few food-related reward challenges being rewarded, these players are all hungry at this point.
Jonathan may have it slightly worse though. As he said, he is a big dude, and he is used to eating a significantly more amount than the rest of the players in the game. So, naturally, he is going to be more tired with the lack of calories he has been intaking. This is leading to him laying around more than usual and not acting like his normal self and others are starting to notice it.
I would like to think the other players will be able to get past this for the next six days, but everyone else is also hungry and tired and that could be reason enough to get rid of him even at this late of a point in the game.
4. Omar
tells a secret
This is such a tricky one. Omar has been playing such a great game from what we can see. However, has anyone else noticed how great of a game he has played? He decided to tell Mike about Drea’s “knowledge is power” advantage and her plans to take away Mike’s idol at that next tribal council. With that knowledge, Mike gave Omar his hidden immunity idol, so he didn’t have to give it away. So, the big question here is will this be seen as a good move by the jury?
Especially with Drea now on the jury, will she see past this and see it as a great move or will she hold a grudge towards Omar because she thought he was playing a different game, and will she think he was too nice to pull off a move like that? I’ve been wondering all season how Omar was going to state his case to the jury if he makes it to the end but moves like this will surely get the attention of the jurors and give him some ammo to use at the end.
5. Final
advantage check
Ok, here we are at the end game where most of the idols or advantages must be played during this week’s tribal council. So, like I’ve done a couple of other times during season 42, I’m going to go over the game’s last remaining advantages to see who has what and how they could be used.
Let’s start with Maryanne since she has more than anyone else. Currently, she is sitting with both a hidden immunity idol and an extra vote. Since this next vote is an even number vote, the extra vote could really do some major damage if there is a potential three-to-three tie vote coming into tribal. At that point, all she would have to do is to use her extra vote to make it a four to three vote. Honestly, if she plays her idol, then she will likely cause a domino effect of everyone else playing their idols too.
Where are the idols? Well, the first one is now with Omar after he told Mike about the “knowledge is power” and Mike gave it to him to hold. Now, if Omar wants Mike out next, all he would have to do is to keep his idol and hope he doesn’t win immunity. Omar would probably play it just to prove it’s not in Mike’s hands at that point.
Finally, now that Hai and Drea are both out of the game, that means that Lindsay’s advantage amulet has now turned into an immunity idol. Since she and Jonathan are both almost always in the final two of every challenge, Jonathan could target her next week and that would be a great time for her to play the last idol!
So, there you have it for this week’s episode. Only six people are left now. We are getting near the end. What are the Taku four going to do? Will they band together and make it to the end? Will Romeo ever vote for the correct person? I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. I want to hear from you, let me know if I missed any moments or if you think I was correct in my thinking, the interaction is part of what makes this so fun!
Please catch more of me here next week where I will try to bring you more fun top five!
Thanks,
