Contestant-related press and rumors |
January 5 , 2008: CBS eventually gets around
to putting up their Survivor: Micronesia site,
which includes Parvati's marginally updated bio (below):
"Parvati SURVIVOR: COOK ISLANDS
Age: 25
Home Town: Los Angeles, CA
Occupation: Non-Profit Organizer
Parvati Shallow grew up the eldest of three siblings on a commune
in Vero Beach, Florida. She and her family moved to Atlanta when
she was 11 years old. Shallow put herself through college, attending
the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor of
Arts degree in journalism with minors in French and Italian.
While in college, she was an active member of the Alpha Omicron
Pi sorority and is a huge Bulldog fan!
A nature lover at heart, Shallow has spent extensive amounts
of time camping and hiking through North America's state parks
including the Tetons and Yellowstone. While in college, she organized
a two-month backpacking trip through Europe where she and two
friends visited 13 countries, sleeping in youth hostels, train
stations, on beaches and park benches. Shallow's favorites include
good sushi, wearing oversized jerseys, karaoke and cheering on
'The Dawgs.' She is also training for triathlons with her mom,
Gale.
Shallow has found her niche with the Los Angeles boxing community
and began competing in 2004. She and some fellow boxers have
parlayed her passion for the sport into the creation of a non-profit
organization titled "Knockouts for Girls," a charity
that provides scholarships and boxing lessons for underprivileged
girls. The organization recently held their first fundraising
event that included boxing matches and a fashion show. Having
been a huge success, she will be boxing at a second fundraiser
in February, 2008.
Shallow currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Her birth
date is September 21, 1982."

January 3, 2008: Entertainment
Weekly (mostly Dalton Ross) handles the cast-release chores
for Survivor: Micronesia. Included is Parvati's pre-show interview
and Probst's comments:
"THE RETURNING FAVORITES: PARVATI SHALLOW
AGE: 25
SEASON: Survivor: Cook Islands
PARVATI SAYS: ''I have tricks up my sleeve like you would never
know. Not just the flirting game this time, at all.''
JEFF PROBST SAYS: ''To me Parvati is this season's Amber. Last
time, Parvati used her flirting, and it got her a long way. But
we didn't really see her do a whole lot more than that, and the
question was, what if underneath that she's got a strategy? What
if she's figured out how to play this game — could she
last long enough to become a threat? Parvati's a question mark.
She could be the same thing, come out and giggle a couple times,
eat some chocolate cake, and go home. On the flip side, if Parvati's
figured out how to play this game, and maybe she teams up with
somebody..."

4, 2006: Parvati-related clips from TV Guide Channel's "Survivor:
Cook Islands Preview"
show:
Parvati (faux flirty): "Ready!"
Cirie Fields: "And ready she is. Parvati might look like
a lightweight, but she's already developed the tough skin...
in the boxing ring."
Parvati: "I've done martial arts ever since I was little.
And, uh... I just love to try new things. And I was like, 'Oh,
boxing sounds fun.' And then I just got involved in, like, training
for competitive matches."

August 24, 2006: Former Survivor: Panama
- Exile Island contestant
"Bob Dawg" Mason provides some local insight into Parvati's
personality:
"I've met Parvati though. We were in a TV hosting
class together a few months ago (Courtney is in it now
too, and I think Danielle, who moved to LA recently, may be checking
it out, so officially, all the cool kids are doing it). If they
got home after the Cocoa Beach thing then that means Parvati
was in the class before she left for the game. She didn't
mention anything about the game and didn't ask me about the game
to my recollection. She and I did an ad-lib presentation
together and her feistiness and my bobdawgsta machismo clashed
a bit and it got a little contentious, but not in a bad way.We
actualyl got teamed up after that b/c the teacher liked the dynamic
of a tough chick and a shit talking chauvanist. She's
tough but nice (or at least she was to me). I don't
know that she understood how much of what I was saying was tongue
in cheek but if you don't know me it's easy to assume I'm just
a one dimensional cocky asshole so I can't blame her. I don't
know if she's italian, but judging from my little experience
with her I think she may end up being what they thought
they were going to get out of Danielle..."
