January 24, 2006: CBSNews video of
a pre-game press roundtable discussion about Shane, led by
Jeff Probst, with Mara Reinstein (US Weekly), Paul Adler (TV
Guide channel), Shawna Malcom (TV Guide), Dalton Ross (EW),
Jarett Wieselman (In Touch). Transcript:
Jeff
Probst: Okay, let's go through
them one by one. We'll start with the older guys. So what
we've done at the beginning is divide them into four groups.
Older men, older women, younger men, younger women. Let's
start with the older guys: Shane Powers.
Mara Reinstein: Colin Farrell, slash Dave
Navarro, slash Tommy Lee.
Shawna Malcom: He was the first person
I interviewed and he's still the most memorable.
Dalton Ross: If he's as good
at strategizing as he is playing with his hair, this
guy's got the million dollar check already.
Shane (pre-game interview, playing
with hair): I think
that, that how I'm going to blend in is that I'm probably
gonna be looked at as a bit eccentric, um, but the
thing is that if I'm eccentric and I'm interesting, and
I'm clever and I take off my shirt, and I have a bunch
of tattoos, and I have this long hair, and I have this
like, for whatever reason, hip-slick-cool-guy image, a
lot of that will be disarmed by my self-effacing humor....
Jeff Probst: Well,
you know in casting he was, uh, very well prepared in that
nonchalant way. Of 'I'm not trying at all.' He
seemed to have his - which isn't necessarily a bad thing
or even unusual, especially when you're in casting because
it's such a... foreign environment. You do find people
are a little more nervous. Do you guys buy him? Do you
think he's for real?
Shawna Malcom: I think he knows what he's
doing. He came in and took his shirt off immediately. Like
that was the first thing, and showed off all of his tattoos,
and....
Paul Adler: Yeah, he
has this like little ball of energy, that's like bursting
at the seams. First of all, he smokes three packs of cigarettes
a day, and he was also wearing a patch. Um, I think his
energy, if it keeps up, is probably going drive a lot of
people nuts.
Dalton Ross: Major
withdrawal symptoms are headed his way. Fifteen shots
of espresso, three packs of cigarettes a day, a day. He's
in some trouble. I think around day four, if not earlier.
Shawna Malcom: He was
already cranky yesterday.
Mara Reinstein: And a little abrasive, too.
Jeff Probst: Is the,
uh, is the abrasiveness something that is still, is also
part of the put on? Or do you think he's already just
getting, you're starting to see some of him coming
out?
Mara Reinstein: Uh,
my interview he rambled around a little bit at the end.
I mean, it was just 20 minutes in an air conditioned room.
So, I don't know how he's gonna do on the island.
Paul Adler: I don't,
I don't think he's long.

January 22, 2006: Transcript of Shane-specific
footage from the TV Guide Channel " Survivor: Panama
- Exile Island Preview" (featuring pre-game contestant
interviews and Jeff Probst comments from circa Ep1):
"Danni Boatwright: But will Dan and
the others be able to tolerate Shane, the youngest of the
older men's tribe?
Shane (pre-game interview): I've
watched the show from the get-go, and I was fascinated
by the Machiavellian nature of it all. I really thought
that I'd be great for the show, and I used to watch the
show all the time and yell at people, because they were
making a vital error. And I was just through yelling
at the television. So now I'm here, and I'm gonna yell
at some other people.
Jeff Probst: I like him as a character, but if he plays the way he's
been showing us, he'll be a short-timer.
Shane (pre-game interview): I'm here to win!"

Shane's bio, from the CBS
Survivor: Panama site:
Shane Powers was born and raised
in Omaha, Nebraska. After finishing high school, Powers
moved to Los Angeles.
In 1999, Powers and two business
partners established a boutique specialty marketing company
with the goal of effectively branding products. On the
side, Powers makes time to coach his son's football team.
Previous employment included work as a club promoter
and restaurant manager.
Powers describes himself as witty,
outgoing and funny. His most important accomplishment,
still in progress, is raising his son. His hobbies include
basketball, softball, writing and frequenting bookstores.
Powers
believes he can be the Sole Survivor because of his unmatched
communication skills. He believes he is also a physical
threat and has the ability to manipulate people and not
have them be resentful. If he wins, he wants to buy some
real equipment and a great field for his son's football
team.
Powers currently
resides in Los Angeles under the watchful eye of his
son, Boston. His birth date is November 28, 1970. |

January 7, 2006: Compiling
various tips we've received about Shane...
- He's in his late 30s, has a number of tattoos, and is skinny. Possibly
originally from the Midwest.
- He's reportedly on the tribe of "older" men.
While it's not clear that Shane is "very small," it
appears he may be a match for the "very small man" mentioned
in ChillOne's spoiler posts.
At the least, he should last a while, and starts out on Terry's
("Military guy"'s) tribe.

December 29, 2005: Survivor Sucks poster suvivorofchrist posts a few hints about a potential contestant:
- "my friend in LA tells me that there is some guy in hollywood
throwing around the notion that he is going to be on the
upcoming season of survivor. he works in the club scene or
something like that. i think his name is shane (or
some rhyming equivalent). that is all that my buddy knows,
but he is reliable."
- "short dark haired guy. throws clubs."
Later, biancaxxx adds the following: "I've just heard that
Shane is
young."
Note: We've heard Shane is on the tribe with the older men.

December 11, 2005: As first pointed out by MayanSun at Survivor Sucks:
Wireimage has a picture showing Shane, ever the aging Hollywood
hipster, making an appearance (with, naturally, Danny Masterson),
at "Jeniffer Goldman and Jenine Leigh's Birthday Party. Location:
Los Angeles, California United States."
This event was, of course, a mere two
days after Shane's return
from Panama.
Wireimage has a number of other pictures documenting Shane's
Hollywood scene hanger-on-dom, if you enter "Shane Powers" in
the search box on their main page.
Then there's also this, from Shane's own
site. Presented without
comment:
