 So
they're at it again. Although Jeff Probst swears that this
time, the whole exile island concept actually works, and
the hidden idols (yes, two must clearly be better than one)
get used. More than once, allegedly. And being sent to
exile island gives a clue where to find the idol... back
at the camp from which you were just rudely dismissed.
Okay, so being exiled is still fairly useless, at least
while you're there.
Still, here's
Probst's idol-related spiel, from an interview with Derrik
J. Lang: "This
season, I think we found the happy medium. You
must play the Idol after the votes have been cast but before
I read them. Before the votes, I say, "How confident
are you? Do you want to take a chance? Or should you play
your Idol?" That made a dramatic difference. The Idols
get played. Nobody is sitting on their Idol until the end
and taking it home as a souvenir."
How soon does that happen? Seems unlikely
it would be in this episode, since there aren't even two
tribes until right before the IC. So while someone may well
be exiled, they probably won't be rooting around in camp
for the idol until the next episode. Tough luck.
Update: SurvivorPhoenix has
heard that the first exilee is a woman, apparently Sylvia,
who they say splits the tribes. Sounds right to us, and now
there's photographic evidence of every other person on the
cast wearing a buff (below). So indeed, Sylvia
splits the tribes, and is exiled:
