China episode 5 detailed immunity challenge spoilers/
speculation |
So
far, we know from the challenge
board this is titled: "Plunge, Pull & Pop." More
details have come courtesy of Jeff Probst, as this challenge
is featured in his "A
Day in the Life of..." YouTube video.
As shown in the video, the challenge features
both a water-based component (on a dock, at least), and a
puzzle portion on land. From the whiteboard sketches, it
looks like the contestants may have to retrieve something
from the water first, then finish the puzzle. Or something.
Update: Dreamer from
JokersUpdates posted a scan from the TV Guide print edition,
which features the following text (penned by Shawna Malcom):
"The
title of the challenge--'Plunge, Pull 'n' Pop'--may sound
like fizzy fun, but according to the show's challenge producer
John Kirhoffer, it's actually one of the season's most grueling.
'The survivors had a much harder time than we [anticipated],'
says Kirhoffer. The challenge has two distinct parts. In
the first, two members from each tribe start out on a raised
platform in the water where, on the 'go,' they must alternately
dive down as far as 15 feet to pull out a series of bamboo
poles that each release a puzzle piece. 'And visibility [in
the water] wasn't all that great,' Kirhoffer laughs. Once
all 12 puzzle pieces have 'popped' to the surface, the survivors
gather them in a boat and race to shore, where the rest of
their respective tribes take over to decipher a complex puzzle.
'Who you choose to perform each role,' previews Kirhoffer,
'will make or break it for your tribe.'"

Who wins? Probst
swears that the challenge "stimulated some reality,"
for which he (of course) feels necessary to berate the contestants:
"Definitely the worst performance at a challenge yet." This
should be because (according to SurvivorSkills)
Zhan Hu throws the challenge, in order to boot Aaron. So
the end result is, Fei Long
wins.
