August 20 , 2007: Jeff Probst's comments (made
sometime during the game), as told to Ileane Rudolph of TV
Guide, in their barely pre-cast reveal article:
"Jeff's take: He's
a big guy with a big, big personality, exactly what you want
a poker player on Survivor to be. Jean-Robert
will tell you what he's going to do and you don't know if he'll
do it or not, because he's a card player."

August 20, 2007: Officially revealed as a Survivor:
China contestant by CBS, as the cast is unceremoniously
dumped onto the CBS web site. From his official
CBS bio:
 "Born in Long Island, New York, Jean-Robert Bellande
considers himself to be international, as he is the son
of French-speaking Haitian immigrants who raised him
in Asia. Bellande is a professional poker player (his
televised tournaments include the 2005 Rio Circuit Event,
2005 US Poker Championship, Ballbreakers 2005 and the
2005 World Poker Tournament's "Bad Boys of Poker").
In 2005, he was ranked the Number 6 Card Player in the
world.
Bellande first made a name for himself promoting
some of Los Angeles' hottest nightclubs, including the
Roxbury, Tatou of Beverly Hills and the Gate. He then
opened up his own Hollywood night spot, Sky Sushi, which
he ran for five years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree
in Marketing from Azusa Pacific University. He describes
himself as charismatic, fun and loud. He is proudest
of making it to the final table at the World Series of
Poker (WSOP) Circuit Event, where he pocketed a whopping
$210,000. Bellande's hobbies are playing poker, playing
pool and hitting the nightclubs. His favorite sport is
soccer. He enjoys playing tennis and basketball. If he
could take three non-survival items with him to China,
he'd bring a deck of cards, poker chips and a dealer.
Bellande
currently resides in Las Vegas. His birth date is September
17, 1970."

June 13, 2007: The "Jean-Robert Bellande is
a Survivor" story gets more official-sounding in an article
at ThePokerBiz.com:
"Jean-Robert Bellande headed for Survivor: China?
Apparently eating bugs, going without showering
for 39 days and sleeping on a straw mat during a monsoon is
a more enjoyable way to spend your summer months than having
to endure sitting next to Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow
for 13 hours per day.
At least that’s apparent thinking
of professional poker player Jean-Robert Bellande who,
according to the scuttlebutt at the Rio, is set to join
the cast of CBS’ Survivor
15. Bellande played in numerous preliminary events at the
2007 World Series of Poker but the latest rumor says he’s
about to become a reality TV star and may have already left
Las Vegas for the filming location in China.
Bellande’s
bio lists him as a former Hollywood nightclub promoter with
a B.A. in marketing. He’s had some success
on the professional poker circuit with cashes totalling $741,680
including a win at the 2005 Winnin’ O’ the Green
for $148,000 and a 3rd place finish at the WSOP-Circuit event
at the Rio in 2005.
Bellande, who is currently without a sponsorship
deal, could look to cash in should be find success on Survivor.
On top of the $1 Million first prize Bellande would instantly
become one of the most recognizable poker players in the
North American market and would likely have multiple suitors
interested in a sponsorship package.
Numerous attempts
to contact Bellande for confirmation went unreturned. Survivor
15: China will air on CBS in the fall."

christens the Survivor: China contestant spoiling thread by
passing along a story about Jean-Robert Bellande's rumored
involvement in S15:
"This isn't my spoiler per se, but it's being discussed
pretty openly at one of the bigger poker boards that Jean-Robert
Bellande ('Bobby' to his friends) a fairly well-known poker
degenerate/pro is expected to be on the S15 cast.hismyspace
Bobby's
known for his brash, borderline obnoxious table persona,
so he'll probably be fun on Survivior.
Obvs. this
is not a solid lock, as poker players are notorious pranksters/prop-bet
fiends, but the guys who are indicating that they know about
this are known pros in that community, not random anon. trolls."
