| The results: Week 1 (through 1/5/08): Hunter, Thompson (no, not THE Hunter Thompson, he's dead) eliminated in a last-minute tie. 17 total votes cast. Week 2 (through 1/12/08): Giuliani follows up his strong showing in Iowa and New Hampshire with a double-elimination in these games. Way to go, Rudy! Week 3 (through 1/19/08): In a surprising turn of events, Mike Huckabee is eliminated on the eve of the South Carolina primary. Huckabust? Week 4 (through 1/26/08): The first Democrat (?) takes a dive, with voters expressing their anti-Clinton rage. Hillary is eliminated. Week 5 (through 2/2/08): The under-the-radar candidates start to get the ax. Alan Keyes, despite not apparently being in the race, gets the boot. Week 6 (through 2/9/08): Another Republican almost-candidate bites the dust. Mayor Bloomberg, we hardly knew ye. Week 7 (through 2/16/08): Shortly after leaving the actual race, Mitt Romney takes leave of the virtual one as well. Week 8 (through 2/23/08): Mirroring the revelation that lobbyists are driving the "Straight Talk Express," McCain's fortunes flicker out. Week 9 (through 3/1/08): The only non-Obama Democrat still running in real life takes the fall - Mike Gravel is out. Week 10 (through 3/8/08): In a sad week for also-rans, Edwards and Kucinich are eliminated. |

There are two contests running on the trend polling section: Survivor-style and
American Idol-style elimination contests. These answer the question: Is the American
electoral system really better than what you'd get from your average reality
TV vote? We suspect we already know the answer, but we'll wait and see what the
actual results say. Stay tuned to this page to track the results as they come
in.
Hints for gaming the system: You can vote once a day, or seven total times per
polling cycle. Also, unless you're voting straight tens and zeros all the way
down the ballot, those intermediate scores can have an effect.

| The results: Week 1 (through 1/5/08): The funereal tones of Fred Thompson, cut from the competition. Sad, sad. 17 total votes cast. Week 2 (through 1/12/08): Giuliani follows up his strong showing in Iowa and New Hampshire with a double-elimination in these games. Way to go, Rudy! Week 3 (through 1/19/08): Again matching Survivor-style's voting, Mike Huckabee (Stephen Colbert's running mate) makes his exit. We blame VFTW. Week 4 (through 1/26/08): Another week, another double elimination: Hillary is eliminated here, as well. But Dodd, Gravel, Hunter and Keyes could all be your idol! Week 5 (through 2/2/08): Maybe he should take the hint - indecisive (Fred Thompson 2.0?) Michael Bloomberg falls, due to lack of support. Week 6 (through 2/9/08): In a surprise move, Gov. Richardson is punished for his state's inability to count primary ballots in a timely fashion. Week 7 (through 2/16/08): Maybe it was the real-life flirting with a Hillary endorsement, but virtual Edwards' ship finally sank. Week 8 (through 2/23/08): The Straight Talk Express crashes and burns here, as well. Week 9 (through 3/1/08): Week nine takes two victims - Alan Keyes and Mitt Romney. Yawn. Week 10 (through 3/8/08): In a second straight double elimination, the wildly dissimilar Duncan Hunter and Dennis Kucinich both miss the cut. |
